Christine and I have just returned from a short break to Belgium.
We travelled to Holland via P&O ferry ‘The Pride of Hull’ and went to visit the famous Keukenhof gardens there.
We then travelled to Blankenberge in Belgium and stayed at the Alfa inn hotel there. We also went to Brugge, which was very nice and Brussels (which was not so nice).
On the way back home, we travelled to Calais in France and took the Euro Tunnel train back to England (not before visiting a warehouse for some wine).

I have purchased ‘families’ for ipad. It’s available in the app store and links in with the ‘legacy’ software that I use for manipulating and populating the family tree.
I wasn’t sure about it because I also have mobilefamilytree pro which is a standalone mac piece of software but the families app is much better for viewing charts and stuff.

I am using Legacy genealogy software to keep the family tree up to date but have also been using mobi on the ipad.
Legacy is much easier to use and I have noticed that they have an now produced ipad addition which is called families.
I’m wondering whether to purchase the families app or stick with the mobi program.
I’ve also been looking at the 1911 UK census on www.ancestry.co.uk versus the same thing on the 1911 website at www.findmypast.co.uk. There are lots of errors on transcriptions and when searching for particular people on one site, you get different results on the other. For instance, my grandmother on my maternal side is shown on findmypast but can’t be found on ancestry whereas another relative can be found on ancestry and not on findmypast etc. It’s is far too expensive an exercise for the proletariat to subscribe multiple accounts so I wish they would all work with the same files.

The family went to the Castleton in Rochdale to celebrate Joan and Bob’s 60th anniversary. The food is good at the Castleton but it always reminds me of an old folks home. Anyhow, a good afternoon was had by all and lets hope Joan and Bob are there for the 90th.

I’ve just broken a filling and it was just as I was eating a Cadbury’s Cream Egg. Serves me right. It must have been cracked already, either that or my teeth are really shite.

Just got a new work laptop and when I got it, all my files from my desktop PC were already on it. Hmm. makes you think a bit more about security and the stuff you have on your computers.

Work
2011 has been a really busy year at HMG and we have installed new machinery (a Sub-Mill) to enable increased production of UNIT tinters during 2012.
We had a Christmas meal in the canteen just before close and all staff were thanked for their efforts during the year.
Let’s hope 2012 is a stonker.

Geez, I feel like scrooge this year. Not because I’m a tight git but because the thought of Christmas and all the hoo-hah is getting me down. Bah. Humbug.
People are spending ages (well at our house it’s ages), setting up decorations, Christmas Tree(s) and lights only to have to take them down again in a few weeks.
Then there is spending shed loads of money (that people can’t really afford to spend) on mostly unwanted rubbish and crap food that’s making us all fat.
And what’s that fat old geezer dressed in red and getting kids to sit on his knee all about?

Had my eyes tested a couple of weeks ago and really do need reading glasses. I was told my eyesight was good enough for DVLA regulations but could be better so I opted for a pair of distance glasses too but they don’t really seem to make much difference after about five metres. The reading glasses are superb and I can see very fine print again…
fed up at the moment because everything seems to be going wrong…Looking forward to Christmas though.
I have just started to digitise the diary I kept from 1987 when Peter Davys and I were working together on projects at HMG.

I had a small eye operation to remove a cyst thing that has plagued me since the end of June.
It was performed at the Croft Shifa Health Centre in Rochdale and I didn’t feel a thing, so, thanks to the Doctor and Sister who looked after me there.
